"Let me ask you something, Christopher..." Nephrite stood from her throne and approached the boy, a sweet smile on her face. "do the people in Northland really seem unhappy to you?" "wh-what?" Chris blinked against her in wonder: this question had taken him by surprise. "I mean, really. was anyone - besides the followers of my cousin - really complaining?" the tall queen continued, the smile not wearing off. "and I'm asking: do you really think killing me will improve something? "of course it--" the boy started, but Nephrite had not finished yet: "if you tell me that Northland folk are miserable and unhappy and that's why you have to kill me, then fine. but let me just remind you: Winter has a personal grudge against me." Nephrite just stared down at him calmly, as if she had just announced the price of a new brand of cookies. the boy opened his mouth to say 'of course they are!', but then stopped.
...because he knew Northland was not a miserable place. he had seen how people live, and he'd heard them talk. and he remembered that he had wondered what exactly does Winter mean when she says Nephrite makes it awful. the thoughts had been pushed to the back of his mind, but now they all came back.
and Winter did actually have a reason to hate her cousin...
the boy's eyes traveled towards the girl standing a few meters behind the queen.
"she's just toying with me, right?" he asked quietly. the girl, staring at the floor, didn't even flinch. "tell me she's just kicking me around." his voice raised a little. "Winter, tell me you haven't been lying to me this whole time!!" he shouted, fists closing. "I had to." the response hit him harder than anything else. "you would not agree to help me otherwise."
------------
yes... Winter isn't the 'oh-so-good-so-perfect' heroine. when it comes to the truth, she's just as selfish as any other person... and she doesn't care who she drags down...

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This news article features five deviants who took part in Comment Month through commenting on the deviations that were submitted.
Please give your time to this article and to write constructive comments so that you make a true difference to the artists featured here. Although not all may be underappreciated, their efforts deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
